And...tonight nearly all the headers are back!! Thank you. The header that is missing is vihart.com (Fun with Math videos) and her site seems to be down at present time.
The current trendy sign off seems to be-- Stay Safe! -- carguy
Bryan, Thanks for the update. As of a few minutes ago, all the headers disappeared from my Feed.. But using your link to XKCD atom feed, I was able to add that back (no header on that box either). Good luck with the new Ubuntu! Carguy
Ya, I have a few bugs that cause the feed pages to act improperly at times.
The first is that I'm using a strict XML library to parse the feed. If the RSS/Atom page has any syntax error (for example: a stray tag or quote) the page wont parse correctly and will return blanks for everything. Pipedot's feed page uses the "title" tag returned from the RSS page as the name of the feed. This is why you sometimes see the header bar of a feed become blank. This is also why some feeds (like ExtremeTech) have weird names: because that's how their source title tag of their RSS page is set!
Another bug happens when adding dual protocol feeds. When I wrote the feed logic, I made each feed be unique based off the RSS URL. This lets a site have multiple feeds, as long as the RSS links have different URLs. The bug happens when you create two feeds to the same location, one using "http" and one using "https". A human knows that "http://xkcd.com/atom.xml" and "https://xkcd.com/atom.xml" are the same, but the site see's them as two unique URLs! (current xkcd feed link is using the atom version over http)
P.S. I also recently upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04 that was released last week. (may have some lingering issues)
I've enjoyed using your "Feed" page for years now. The other day, XKCD stopped updating, also the "XKCD" header above the list disappeared. Tried deleting that feed and using "+" to start over, but it's not working. * There used to be a big pick list to the right of: "Use existing feed:" and that is currently empty. * "Or add new feed:" didn't work when I tried https://xkcd.com/rss.xml
Voltage = Current * Resistance. Change in voltage moves at the speed of light of the material used (therefore, so does change in current). For example, copper's speed is about 1/10 the speed of light in a vacuum. "The detected electric currents are approximately one million times faster than those widely used in a modern computer processor." The current is not moving at 100,000c. On the other hand, electron drift for copper is 23 μm/s. So approx. 1 million times faster would be about 23 m/s.
Thank you Bryan! And thanks for the explanation too. Simpleminded comment--perhaps for weather you need to "overwrite", or write in a circular buffer of fixed size, rather than "append"? Same might apply for stock market prices, anyone that wants the history of a stock price has plenty of choices for that data.
A misbehaving set of feeds (raw weather data) was taking too much time and caused some of the other feeds to miss their updates. When I coded the feeds, I never really considered raw weather data would be used as an RSS stream. Every time the feed updates, the system would generate a new permanent article with the current temperature. Some of the weather feeds racked up millions of ephemeral and rather worthless articles. For now, I've deleted a big chunk of these and unclogged the updates.
In the future, I will probably need to come up with a more elegant solution to showing weather information. With some of the other sites (like iGoogle), you could add a "weather widget" that showed a better summary of current conditions than an RSS feed.
I continue to enjoy your Feed page, but lately I've noticed that the feed from The Guardian (news) seems to have stalled -- the same items/links have been listed for a week or more. Clicking on the header of the "feed-box" gets me to the main Guardian page. Other Feeds like XKCD work fine.
Any idea what is going on? Has Guardian changed their RSS source? Thanks again!

Before I left for vacation last week, I turned off a few of my computers. Seems I turned off too many and accidentally turned off the backup computer that moves the database backups off the live site. After a few days, the untransfered backups exceeded the storage capacity of the live site and started to cause problems. Woops! Sorry for any inconvenience as the site was down on Friday-Saturday while I was traveling.
I'm looking at a few changes to the backup process that should prevent these types of problems in the future.

Just curious, I couldn't get to this site (any page) for the last few days, got a 502 error. Any explanation(s)?
How did you know 'where' to put the capacitor - trace the MW antenna circuit? I"m assuming NO on the following questions but can't 'see' from here so am asking: Does this modification 'connect' the built in AM antenna to my shortwave external antenna when it's plugged into the jack? If I do this - will I now have overload potential with the external antenna (can it handle my AM Loop)? Thanks in advance; and thanks for sharing this mod!
ESR is not a lawyer, just another college drop out. His legal opinion is quite worthless.
The legal opinion from a Professor of Law at Columbia Law School holds a lot of weight.
I don't know why you want to keep beating this dead horse, MikeeUSA. The issue will only be resolved conclusively once it makes its way through several court trials and challenges.
Re: iPhone or Android unlocking services (Score: 1)
They all have unlocking terms on their sites you can find with a quick search, some with even lesser service requirements.
For the illegitimate unlocking services, I would highly discourage the use of random websites you've found. Ebay has plenty of sellers who offer unlock codes, where users can post negative feedback and can get refunds.
Those unlock codes only work for GSM services like ATT and T Mobile. Verizon and Sprint services require a valid IMEI, and that's tracked in a carrier database, where only they can mark it "unlocked" and available for service on other carriers (MVNOs).
This is excellent - I love flip phones. They feel protective of the main phone screen and number pad. They are also small and portable, lightweight and cute to look at! It's easy to get into the texting with practise using the proper keys, especially with predictive text - I remember on my old Motorola!
Is iPhone or Android easier to unlock - or are they both the same? I have found various companies, including iphone approved unlock, official sim unlock and official imei phone unlock. All look about the same except the first one specializes in iPhones. But does this even matter? The last one has the same design as the first so is this the same company or is it standard? I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and iPhone 7. Both excellent phones by the way :-) Would like both unlocking but don't know where to go as stores want to charge too much..
Self-driving cars are the future - it's crazy that we all drive around in our own tin cans! Accidents just waiting to happen. In 100 or so years it will look mental that we each had our own little car, and they could all reach much higher speeds than was safe or necessary. So dangerous. Can't wait for full automation, all cars perfectly sensing where others are on the road, slowing down and speeding up in synch with each other, leaving the perfect amount of space between each vehicle, avoiding stopping and starting all the time, tail-backs, hold-ups, traffic queues, bumps, scrapes, parking disasters, etc. Everyone nice and slow in total control. Will be life transforming for elderly people, disabled people, people who can't drive/ don't want to drive, people after a few drinks etc.

Had to stop and think for a minute, which is the "red site"...because I read SoylentNews in VT100 mode, green text on black background, very easy on my old eyes. If you get in the mood for further updates here, some other color schemes/themes might be a worthwhile addition?
