San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid knelt during the national anthem prior to Sunday's preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings, as part of the protest against social injustice and police brutality in the United States.

This development was a change of course for Reid, who said on Aug. 15 that he didn't intend to kneel during the anthem this season.

Reid also previously stated that last year's decision to kneel during the anthem alongside Colin Kaepernick went awry, with the general public misinterpreting their message.

It appears Reid has changed his mind, and it remains to be seen whether he'll continue his form of advocacy when the regular season kicks off in September.
