Report: Retirement home to be built in Canton for ex-NFLers

Steps are being taken to ensure the futures of ex-NFL players by the building of a retirement home in the vicinity of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, according to Jenny Vrentas of the MMQB.

The facility will have 143 beds and will include units built specifically for senior care, assisted living, and will include a separate wing for memory care relating to cognitive diseases.

While it's slightly unsettling that such a provision may be necessary for football players, it's reassuring that steps are being taken to address some of the issues that are being found in former players.

The retirement unit is being coined "Legends Landing," and is just one part of Canton's roughly $800-million plan to transform the Hall of Fame into a must-see attraction for fans across the country.

The retirement community unveiling comes just weeks after the most recent class of Hall of Fame inductees expressed uncertainty about the future.

"I can't lie," former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis said during his induction speech, "we're all scared ... we don't know what the future holds."

"Legends Landing" should be constructed by 2020.
