Panthers sign GM Dale Tallon to multi-year extension
Happy new year, Dale Tallon.
The Florida Panthers announced a multi-year extension for Tallon, their general manager and executive vice president, on Friday morning. It's a reported three-year deal.
The Panthers have won seven in a row, led by the ageless Jaromir Jagr, and sit in first place in the Atlantic Division. A good time as ever to talk contract, in other words, if you're the man who put the team together.
Florida also named Tom Rowe, who was coaching its American Hockey League affiliate, as associate general manager.

Panthers owner Vinnie Viola said in a statement:
Dale and Tom bring a wealth of leadership, credibility and hockey experience that will enrich our organization for years to come. We have benefited tremendously from their expertise already. The success of both our NHL and AHL clubs this season is a direct result of Dale and Tom's leadership and stewardship. With the stability provided by the recent Broward County Commissioners vote, we look forward to continuing to strengthen our team both on and off the ice as we work towards the singular goal of winning the Stanley Cup.
Tallon joined the Panthers in 2010, and has put together a solid stable of young talent. The club improved by 25 points from 2013-14 to 2014-15, and appears poised to compete for a playoff spot in 2016.
"I'm excited for what the future holds for our team with an exciting nucleus of young players along with our mix of veterans," Tallon said.
