New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard is believed to be "in the clear" after rolling his ankle during practice Wednesday, a source told ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

Shepard was carted off the field, seemingly in tears, leading many to expect his injury to be severe.

However, the promising second-year wideout underwent an MRI on his ankle Thursday, which head coach Ben McAdoo described as "due diligence," according to Raanan.

Shepard finished his rookie year with 65 receptions for 683 yards and eight touchdowns while starting all 16 games. He is expected to play an even larger part in the Giants' offense in 2017, even with the arrival of Brandon Marshall.
