Denver Broncos quarterback Paxton Lynch has been diagnosed with a shoulder sprain that will cause him to miss at least a few weeks, but will not require surgery, reports Mike Klis of 9News.

Lynch had been forced to leave Saturday's game with the injury, keeping him from any chance of re-igniting a quarterback competition with Trevor Siemian.

The 23-year-old former first-round pick lost the starting quarterback competition to Siemian for a second year in a row this summer. Lynch played in three games last season, throwing for a total of 497 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
