Report: Packers add to pass rush with Ahmad Brooks signing

The Green Bay Packers are signing free-agent linebacker Ahmad Brooks to a one-year contract that could be worth up to $5 million, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The 49ers released the veteran pass-rusher last week after 10 seasons in San Francisco.

It's a rare dip into the free-agent market for Green Bay, but a necessary one considering the team's lack of depth at the position.

Starters Clay Matthews and Nick Perry are dealing with injuries and rookie Vince Biegel is expected to start the year on the physically unable to perform list.

Brooks is an edge-setting linebacker whose best pass-rushing days are likely beyond him. However, he's produced a solid 18.5 sacks in his last 43 games and should fill the role left by the departed Julius Peppers.
