Retired Orr returns to join Ravens' coaching staff, personnel department
Retired Baltimore Ravens linebacker Zach Orr will rejoin his former team as part of its coaching staff and personnel department, the Ravens announced Wednesday.
Orr retired in January due to a spinal condition, but attempted a brief comeback before hanging up his cleats again in mid-August.
"Zach will be getting exposure to both the coaching and personnel departments with the Ravens," general manager Ozzie Newsome said.
"He'll spend time learning about coaching at this level, and he'll learn the ropes with our scouts. We look forward to working with him as he makes the transition from being an active player."
Orr will work with the linebackers and sit in on special-teams meetings during the season. After the 2017 campaign finishes, the 25-year-old will transition to the personnel departed to help scout players.
"I lit up. I was like, 'Of course!'" Orr said when asked about owner Steve Bisciotti's invite to rejoin the team in a non-player role. "I still want to be around this game, especially an opportunity to work with some of the best coaches and some of the best front-office personnel in the league. It's a great opportunity for me to learn and grow."
