Quick look: The Samsung Gear S2 and LG Watch Urbane
Smartwatches are coming a long way in a short amount of time, and so it's fitting that we had the LG Watch Urbane on our wrist as we went to check out the new (and Tizen-powered) Samsung Gear S2. LG mostly has been our favorite Android Wear manufacturer thus far — thanks in no small part to the excellent P-AMOLED display it's been using — and Samsung's brought something special in the Gear S2. Let's take a quick look at the two, then.
'Samsung's Gear S2 is its best-looking smartwatch yet'
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I'm actually a very tiny, tiny little bit 'excited' about Samsung's (...eh) new smartwatch, the Gear S2. It looks pretty decent, seems to have a better input method than laggy touch (Wear) or a finicky jog dial nobody uses (Apple Watch), and the software - that's Tizen, so an alternative operating system! Right? Right? - looks nice, and seems to work well too.The impressive things with the Gear S2 don't end with its new design: Samsung's actually figured out a really smart interaction model for smartwatches that I'm shocked no one else has done yet. There's the touchscreen, yes, just like most other smartwatches, and the Gear S2 has a couple buttons on its side for home and back. But its real trick is in the rotating bezel, which lets you quickly and easily scroll through lists, apps, watch faces, and whatever else you might be looking at on the screen. It's more predictable and intuitive than the Apple Watch's Digital Crown and is a joy to use.I can't believe that upon first inspection, this Gear S2 actually seems like a really well-designed and well-thought out product, considering we're dealing with Samsung here. This thing still isn't watch enough for my personal taste, but there's no denying that Samsung seems to have done a decent job here.I hope I get to play with one soon.

Samsung Gear S2 versus Apple Watch
There's a new smartwatch in town. Since the launch of the Apple Watch, there hasn't been much in the way of true competition. Sure, Samsung had their older (and weirder) Gear S2 smartwatch with its relatively large curved rectangular display and built-in 3G radio. And sure, Android Wear watches have been steadily improving in capability, performance, and design. But when it came to hardware quality, interface design, and snappy performance, the Apple Watch really had no equal. Until possibly now, with the launch of the Samsung Gear S2.
In pictures: the new Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch
The Samsung Gear S2 is a surprisingly impressive smartwatch. It's light, it looks good, and it's seriously polished, fast, and responsive. While you might not yet get to wrap this thing around your wrist and spin that bezel with your fingers, you can check out our full bank of photos to tide you over until you can. More: Hands-on with the Gear S2!
Exclusive no more: Gear S2 smartwatch will work with non-Samsung phones!
One well-kept secret of the new Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch is one that is bound to make a lot of Android enthusiasts happy: The Gear S2 will work with non-Samsung smartphones. Consider that again: Samsung is opening its ecosystem a bit. There's a caveat, of course. You'll need a phone with Android 4.4 or higher — that comprises 57 percent of current devices as of Aug. 3 — and you'll need a phone that has at least 1.5 gigabytes of RAM.
Hands-on with the new Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch
(Or, why you should no longer turn up your nose at the Tizen-powered wearable.) When you think back, in this age of Android Wear and Apple Watches, Samsung actually was one of the first to enter the smartwatch game. And maybe it was a little too ambitious at the time. The watches tended to be pretty big — and as nerdy as you'd expect — and tried to do too much while not doing anything particularly well. And what's more is that they were constrained to Samsung devices only. While that's a big ecosystem, to be sure, it's still limiting. But do not ignore this, the new Gear S2. This is the beginning of the new generation of wearables from Samsung. A watch you wouldn't hesitate to wear on the street. Or in the gym. Or maybe even (and we'll have to give this a little more thought) dressed up and out on the town. And perhaps more important is that the walled garden has been opened, with Samsung setting things up so the Gear S2 will work with phones that don't have the Samsung logo on their front. Intrigued yet? We are. Let's take a look at the new Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch.

A fresh look at the Huawei Watch
Huawei thinks your smartwatch should look and feel like a watch all the time. So far, we agree with the sentiment. It has been a little more than six months since we last saw Huawei on a stage talking about its entry into Android Wear, and now that you can actually put money down for one of these pretty wrist computers it seemed like a good time to take a look at the final hardware and software. While not much has changed on the outside of the Huawei Watch from our initial hands-on, there's a lot less secrecy around the tech on the inside now. Additionally, Android Wear 1.3 is now here to take this experience and offer some additional functionality. Here's a more detailed look at what you can expect from the first Android Wear Watch from Huawei, from simple Stainless Steel to rich Rose Gold.
