Linux Mint and Firefox slow fullscreen video interface

Hi all,

Not sure whether anyone can help or not. My partner uses Linux Mint 17.2 and the latest official firefox (44.0.2 at this time). Whenever he watches videos on Facebook, he likes to have them running fullscreen. If he clicks the fullscreen button, it takes several seconds for the interface to change and for the video to appear. Quite often, the controls for playback don't respond until about 15 seconds after a click (if at all).

I installed the official flash plugin non-free to see if this remedied the issue, but it appears that Facebook doesn't use the flash plugin. I even tried using an addon for Firefox to force videos to play using flash - to no avail.

With hardware acceleration disabled or enabled in Firefox, the performance is still the same. It can't be an issue with his GFX card not being good enough, as it's a recent Radeon model (12 months) and worked before 'upgrading' from Mint 16. I'm at a total loss as to where to look for a solution.
I haven't yet tried using the latest offical fglrx drivers for his card as Mint offered to install a version of fglrx that came bundled with it - could the graphics drivers solve the issue, or is it liable to be something more fundamental?

I got him to set media.gstreamer.enabled to false as suggested in this thread: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtop...?f=42&t=207405 - but that doesn't seem to have helped.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=a8z4vf1K1Zk:WaWzpgdnv7o:F7zBnMy latest?i=a8z4vf1K1Zk:WaWzpgdnv7o:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=a8z4vf1K1Zk:WaWzpgdnv7o:gIN9vFwa8z4vf1K1Zk
