The Red Hall 038
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: Lilith planned to tell them that Hel had chosen her as his successor as headmaster, and that she would assume the role of his assistant for the next couple years.
The Red Hall 037
The Red Hall 036
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: Such a simple magic trick isn’t really worthy of Lilith. But since I found the scene so cute, I included it anyway.
The Red Hall 035
The Red Hall 034
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: This scene was obviously inspired by the famous prom scene in
The Red Hall 033
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: Lilith felt the disruption of the Bluestream caused by the spell she cast at the end of The Bipartite Mind weeks before any other wizard. Since it’s her own spell causing the disruption, this isn’t overly surprising, though.
The Red Hall 032
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: Contrary to Hogwarts, destruction of school property doesn’t seem to necessarily result in point deduction at the Academy of Cania.
The Red Hall 031
The Red Hall 030
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: I didn’t always remember to write all dialog lines of imps in third person and future tense and had to go back and fix already published pages occasionally.
The Red Hall 029
The Red Hall 028
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: On this page, we get the first glimpse of Lilith’s uncanny abilities in the field of time magic. The question is: Why is Ars so surprised by her abilities? Did Lilith intentionally hide her full potential during normal lessons? Or did Lilith have a […]
The Red Hall 027
The Red Hall 026
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: The golem is part of the exams, of course.
The Red Hall 025
The Red Hall 024
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: Please take a look at the exuberant drawing of the shelf containing the staffs! That’s dedication to the craft of cartooning that you won’t find in Cyanide & Happiness!
The Red Hall 023
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: Ars’ recipe was inspired by a recipe featured in a short story I wrote in fifth grade about an incompetent wizard. It was a surprisingly well thought out text for a fifth grader, and if it hadn’t been full of spelling mistakes, I would […]

The Red Hall 018
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: When the first pages of Gaia were published on 19 November 2011, I made sure this impressive page was shown on the front page. The golems may look a little too sophisticated for just an exam, but I wanted something that wows our new […]
The Red Hall 017
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: When writing this scene, I had the idea to show the boys’ exam on the left side of each page and the girls’ exam on the right side. But I quickly realized that this wouldn’t work.
The Red Hall 016
The Red Hall 015
The Red Hall 014
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: Viviana is really showing off her skills as a thief with that dynamic jump out of the window. The last panel is really suspenseful with the guard getting ready to shoot Viviana. This early in the story no reader could know that the unnamed […]
The Red Hall 013
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: Viviana’s dagger has a retractable blade filled with fake blood.
The Red Hall 012
The Red Hall 011
The Red Hall 010
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: The story didn’t turn out as expected. For the first time in the history of storytelling, neither of the two guys got the girl! And they’re not even sad about it.
The Red Hall 009
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: “Don’t fight with words! Fight with potentially deadly weapons!” is one of my favorite lines in the whole comic. It’s only a single page, but it provides a good introduction to Faye’s personality and the rivalry between Ilias and Sandril.

The Red Hall 006
The Red Hall 005
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: Even more foreshadowing! In Shadowdancers #71, Ryn will break up with Sarah due to her vicious remarks towards Lilith.
The Red Hall 004
The Red Hall 003
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: That’s some serious foreshadowing considering that mind reading will be the central theme of The Bipartite Mind, the last chapter before the epilogue. The last panel contains a severe localization issue. The equivalent phrase in German is “I’ll squeeze my thumb(s) for you.” For […]
The Red Hall 002
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est: I think this was a quite clever way to introduce the nature of magic on Gaia to the readers. Casual, yet informative.

Some more great YouTube channels
After my first post about great YouTube channels, I have some additional suggestions today: Ahoy produces animated documentaries about video games. While I’m not so interested in his numerous videos about video game weapons, his video about the first video game is one of the best documentaries ever produced! If you like Ceave Gaming’s Super […]

Lilith Portrait
I found this lovely portrait of Lilith on my hard drive this week. I’ve totally forgotten about it. It was drawn by manusia-no-31 who also drew several commissions of Sandra and Woo characters a decade ago. The lower half of the portrait was unfinished, but Powree finished it, perfectly mimicking manusia-no-31’s style.

That’s all, folks!
Progress report for “Gaia: sic mundus creatus est”
I’ve made good progress on the supplementary book Gaia: sic mundus creatus est which contains the making-of of Gaia and lots of artwork. Today, I created a complete PDF of the whole book for the first time. That means there are now only two things missing: A second editing round for the new content added […]
