Ghostery now using an internet page for application settings configuration

A long time ago the method for changing flash settings>/a> was to open a web page on a web server on the adobe website and set the options which would then update the options for Flash locally. Confused? So were many people. Think that this could be a good attack vector? Right. Why have a web page on a server on the internet to set configuration for a program installed on your computer. Now, the Ghostery plugin has gone the same way. When the user attempts to change ghostery settings it does not open the settings panel in your browser it opens a settings page on the ghostery site. Perhaps it is time to fork Ghostery. Ironically the https://extension.ghostery.com/settings page shows two trackers: one of which is Google Analytics. Has Ghostery been hacked? or taken over? How do you feel about Ghostery using a web page on their server to change local application settings for your web browser?

The local ghostery settings url is: resource://firefox-at-ghostery-dot-com/ghostery/data/options.html
The internet page now being used is: https://extension.ghostery.com/settings

Actually, what I'd really like to know is how to permanently remove that purple circle thing which pops up. Irritating, annoying, it's like a little popup ad on its own. No setting change so far has disabled it.

In Firefox, after installing Ghostery, clicking on the Preferences button in about:addons shows the internet page https://extension.ghostery.com/settings

The local resource location doesn't work for Firefox on Linux.
File not found

Firefox can't find the file at resource://firefox-at-ghostery-dot-com/ghostery/data/options.html.

Check the file name for capitalization or other typing errors.
Check to see if the file was moved, renamed or deleted.
That that fricking page has googleanalytics
