Paying podcasting forwardApple announced several new products and services at its Spring Loaded event this week, including an updated Apple TV 4K, new colorful iMacs, and a new iPad Pro powered by Apple's desktop-grade M1 SOC. Aside from all of that pretty hardware, though, one of the most interesting announcements (at least, in my opinion) and one of the most widely-anticipated (save for AirTags), was Apple's new Podcast Subscriptions service. While a paid podcasting platform may have been expected, the form in which it was unveiled might not have been. So what exactly is Apple Podcast Subscriptions, and how does it stack up vs. premium options from competitors? What is Apple Podcast SubscriptionsEver since Apple helped popularize the podcasting genre (and its iPod music players even lent part of their name to the concept), iTunes, and later Apple Podcasts, has served as the most popular place to access this plethora of content. Even better, podcasts have largely been free to...

Bringing the British Invasion to true wireless earbuds.Back in 1962, Jim Marshall opened a small shop in London, where he sold drum kits and accessories for a short while before eventually pivoting to what the Marshall brand is best known for today: guitar amps. Few names are as instantly recognizable to a rock guitarist, but not everyone knows that Marshall Amplification actually makes a lot of other audio products, ranging from Bluetooth speakers to noise-canceling over-ear headphones and, for the first time, true wireless earbuds. The Mode II true wireless earbuds are the company's first venture into an increasingly crowded space, and while they bear every bit of the classic Marshall look and feel that the guitarist in me yearns for, they need to do more than just look the part to justify a price tag that's right in line with some of the best wireless earbuds on the market.Marshall Mode II review:Price and availabilityWhat you'll like What's not so greatThe competitio...

Aside from a slightly more powerful chipset, the "new" LTE variant doesn't bring any other changes. What you need to knowSamsung could soon launch a Snapdragon 865-powered LTE variant of the Galaxy S20 FE.Until now, all LTE variants of the phone were powered by Samsung's in-house developed Exynos 990 chipset. Notifications are a big part of the Android experience, and Android 12 brings another big change.I'll bet the "thing" on your phone you look at the most is the notification shade. No matter if you have one of the best budget Android phones or something more pricey, you want to know what's going on, when it's happening, and most importantly, who is chatting with you or at you. After all, it's the real reason the smartphone was invented — email, messaging, and apps can come to the same little gadget that makes phone calls.Notifications have also always been Android's strong suit. With a little bit of what companies like BlackBerry used to deliver combined with the best of what Apple offers and a touch of Google's extra smart software magic thrown in for good measure, Android's notification system is pretty great. And it's about to get better with Android 12 and the Conversation Shortcut. We've seen the mockups and even where people have hacked away at the Android 12 developer ...

Phones are essential to people for all sorts of reasons, but even the best Android phone pretty much worthless if it has no juice. This is why having multiple ways to keep your phone going is helpful, and knowing how to charge your phone using solar power gives you even more freedom. A typical way to power these slabs of technology is by plugging them into a fast USB-C wall charger at your home or office, possibly with an excellent battery pack that was charged the same way. However, even this option fails if the power is out or you're away from an outlet.Putting the sun to workThere are alternative ways to get power to your phone cleanly and away from the electrical grid. One of those options is to use the power of the sun, and it couldn't be easier. There are ways of powering your entire home with solar, but it can be costly, and you may not own your home, which can make installing solar panels on it out of the question. So, instead of using solar for everything you own with a...

The ultimate hyper active speakerI've covered many of the best Bluetooth speakers here at Android Central, but most of my personal experience has been with smart speakers from the likes of Sonos, Amazon, and Google. I hadn't used an Ultimate Ears product in quite some time, so of course, I was hyped when I had the chance to do this Hyberboom review.I'm by no means an audiophile, but I know what sounds good and what doesn't (that had a Forrest Gump "I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is" ring to it). I know that the experts don't consider most Echo speakers to be amazing sounding, but I also know that high fidelity is not necessarily the most important quality for someone looking for a rugged, durable, and portable Bluetooth speaker. And yet, after spending some time with the Ultimate Ears Hyperboom, I think that this speaker could satisfy both the audiophile and the outdoor adventurist. It may be meant to take a beating, but it serves up some amazing beats itself.Ultim...

It will go on sale in India from April. Realme today expanded its Realme 8 family of budget phones with a 5G version of the vanilla Realme 8. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Huawei Mate X2 bring similar designs for different audiences. What you need to knowMrMobile spent some time with the Huawei Mate X2 and gave his impressions on the foldable phone.Fueling his impressions of the Mate X2 is how it compares to the Galaxy Z Fold 2.You can watch Mr. Mobile's video below on his thoughts on both Samsung and Huawei's second-gen foldables. One of the fears of buying an expensive, foldable smartphone is not only the practicality of certain form factors (which may still be for debate) but also the fragility of the devices. That's something MrMobile had to learn the hard way once before with the Moto Razr 5G, and something he's once again experiencing with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. This is what made him really consider what the Huawei Mate X2 is trying to accomplish and why it just might work.Despite possibly being the best foldable phone in a market with so few, Galaxy Z Fold 2 owners have apparently reported cracking along t...

The power delivery standard has paved the way for a new wave of USB-C battery packs that are both powerful and portable. While there are some massive power banks aimed more at charging laptops or powering devices through long camping trips, I rank the lighter and cheaper models as the most reliable option when considering the best USB-C charger. Many reviewers have even suggested that you'd be better off with any of the best Wear OS watches. Fortunately, OnePlus has apparently heard the criticisms and is rolling out an update soon that should hopefully help with the smartwatch's software woes.Hopefully, the update should improve notification support on the watch, which is something that many users have complained about. If you are looking for an affordable, mid-range smartphone, we think the Google Pixel 4a is the best Android phone you can get under $400. That's because it offers the same core experience as the higher-end Pixel 4 that preceded it. You get the same software and features and the same camera experience. The only shortcomings come in the hardware and a couple of the specs — a fine trade-off to save hundreds of dollars.Best Overall Android Phone Under $400: Google Pixel 4aThe Pixel 3a from 2019 stood out as one of the best Android values for well over a year, and to fill its impressive shoes, we now have the Pixel 4a. Instead, it's a change mostly aimed at gaming, Android 12 will allow developers to "emphasize key events and actions in their UI", and developers will be able to build more console-like experiences when it comes to making use of your phone...

Don't be out on the road without a way to charge absolutely everything you've brought with you. Bestek's 300W power inverter makes that possible by adding two AC outlets and two USB ports through your car charger port. Right now you can get the power inverter on sale for $26.39 at Amazon. There's nothing wrong with the tried and true slab form factor we've all grown deeply familiar with over the last decade and some change. Nearly all of the best Android phones these days are some variation of a glass and metal sandwich with a tall, narrow aspect ratio that's both comfortable to hold and spacious enough for today's widescreen videos. That form factor isn't going away any time soon, but while I love the Pixel 5 that I use every day, I also love more experimental phones like the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and even the LG Wing (pouring one out for you, LG). Phones that push the boundaries not just of how powerful a phone can be, but what a phone should be.Foldables and other types of shapeshifting devices aren't for everyone, at least not yet, but for the right user, they offer incredibly powerful features and tools that simply can't happen on more traditional devices, no matter what processor or camera tech you throw at them. There's power — not to mention style — in foldi...

The company has also signaled that it plans to make more original content of its own in the coming weeks. The world may be on fire but at least the PS5 is finally here to distract you.Sony launched its most ambitious console to date on Nov. 12, 2020 with the PS5. At this point, Bluetooth wireless headphones have become ubiquitous, coming in a variety of styles and feature sets to support great sound. There are many great options, and chief among them are the Sony WH-1000XM4 at the top of our best wireless headphones. Their sound quality is great. They have industry-leading active noise cancelation (ANC), long battery life, and fit comfortably for long-term use.Best Overall: Sony WH-1000XM4There aren't many flaws to point out with the WH-1000XM4, which was in the same spot before. One of the biggest reasons why is the ANC performance, which gets an upgrade here courtesy of Sony's QN1 processor and a dual noise sensor that do the work of blocking out the background. Commuting on a bus, train, or plane won't be a problem while wearing these. Chatting with the AC forums. With so many great options to choose from at so many price points, finding the best Android phone for you can be challenging. Whether you want to save some money and get a great cheap phone like the Google Pixel 4a, or you've got a little more to spend and want top-level features for a mid-range price like the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, it's hard to go wrong. PS Now is in need of a major overhaul if Sony wants it to be taken seriously.PlayStation Now began its life in 2014 primarily as a streaming service, a way to play a bunch of games without having to download them to your PS4. It has since morphed into a bit of a hybrid service that allows hundreds of games to be downloaded directly to your console. As far as subscription services go, it needs to offer a lot more if it wants to stay relevant because Microsoft is killing it with Xbox Game Pass.Sony's approach to PlayStation Now seems to be outright neglect, and it's in desperate need of an overhaul. PlayStation boss Jim Ryan says that the company wants to expand its existing ecosystem, but everything it's done in regards to PlayStation Now is antithetical to that.PlayStation Now review:Price and availabilityGames and softwareStreamingPlayStation Now hubShould you buy it?
