Affordable Redmi phones featuring the tech might arrive later this yearWhat you need to knowRedmi today showcased its in-display fingerprint technology for LCD displays. The company says that the technology is ready for mass production. Current in-display fingerprint solutions are only compatible with AMOLED displays. In January 2018, Chinese smartphone brand Vivo unveiled the X20 Plus UD, the first phone to ship with an in-display fingerprint sensor. The feature has now become standard fare on Android flagships and is becoming increasingly common in the mid-range segment as well. While current in-display fingerprint solutions only work with OLED panels, Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi announced today that is has successfully managed to implement a fingerprint sensor under an LCD panel. The technology was demonstrated in a video shared by Redmi general manager Lu Weibing on Weibo. Since OLED displays don't require a backlight module, in-display fingerprint sensors can easily tra...

A small change makes a big difference for Google's digital wallet.I don't know about you, but I really like mobile wallets. Being able to store all of my credit cards, loyalty programs, event tickets, and more in one single place on my phone is a huge convenience, especially as our world becomes less and less reliant on cash.Unfortunately for Android users, Google has been trailing behind in these regards for some time. Using Google Pay for NFC payments works perfectly fine, but lacking support for digital passes and not having an easy way to access the service outside of opening the Google Pay app has put it in a noticeably lower tier compared to Apple Pay and even Samsung Pay. I roasted Google pretty hard about this last July, which is why I got so excited when my Pixel 4 received the March 2020 "feature drop." Thanks to this update, Google Pay is just a button-press away.Google's been using these feature drops for the last couple of months to bring new software features...

120Hz displays are in, the headphone jack is out.Every year sees a heap of various Android phones released into the market. Some are good, some are bad. Some are really exciting, whereas others are a bit boring. Among all of the handsets to come out during a given year, one release that's continually met with a lot of excitement and fanfare is Samsung's Galaxy S series. One could argue that Galaxy S phones aren't always the most interesting, but there's no denying how much more attention they get compared to much of the competition. For 2020, Samsung is launching a trio of phones with the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra. These are very technically impressive gadgets with high prices to match, and if you can afford what Samsung is asking for the phones, they're bound to be some of the best the Android landscape sees all year. From hands-on coverage, detailed specs, accessory recommendations, and so much more, here's absolutely everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy ...

These are the best Honor phones you can buy right now.Mid-range marvelHonor 20Staff pickThe Honor 20 has all the hallmarks of a great affordable flagship: it has an evocative design with a hole-punch cutout, powerful hardware in the form of a Kirin 980 chipset, and four cameras at the back with a 48-megapixel primary lens. Smartphones that cost $1,000 and more have quickly become commonplace in the market, and for anyone on a budget, those steep prices can quickly induce a headache. That number looks great in marketing materials, but ultimately 100X photos are terrible.Samsung made huge strides in camera quality with the Galaxy S20 series, to the point where in many situations the S20 Ultra is taking photos directly comparable to the Pixel 4 XL. Putting aside little quibbles around the details of how the photos look, I'm really loving what this camera is capable of, and I don't feel like I'm using an inferior camera like I did with the S10+. Let's do this whole time change thing again.Twice a year the clocks change (for most of us). We "spring forward" an hour and then "fall back" the hour later in the year, and depending on where we live that happens on a different day. It's all sort of convoluted. And this inevitably leads to folks wondering what they have to do to their Android phone so things work right after the switch. If this sounds like you, we've got good news:You don't have to do anything. This is the best thing you'll never have to do for your phone!Unless you went into your phone's settings and switched away from the automatic network time (in which case you already know what to do), you won't have to do a thing. Your Android will check the network for the correct date and time and switch itself on it's own overnight, changing the system time so that things like calendars and alarms will still be right. The same thing applies when other parts of the world move an hour forward or back on their sched...

Your phone is probably on your person and working right now. But that's not always the case.I will go out on a limb and say that everyone reading this has a smartphone within reach at this very moment. In fact, most people reading this are doing so on their smartphones. Our phones have become an extension of our arms and we depend on them for a lot of things.Unfortunately, I'm seeing other products that also depend on your phone. By this, I don't mean something like a Philips Hue lamp that you set up with your phone but can control in other ways like Alexa or Google Assistant, but things that only work if you use an app to make them work. Smart things are cool. Not being able to use them without a working phone in hand isn't nearly as cool.My example, and what made me realize how this is a horrible idea, was a simple light I bought. It's designed to hang over houseplants or a fish tank or wherever you want that nice daylight look, and uses an app to fine-tune the color out...

Man United were 2-1 winners at the Etihad in December the last time these two teams met in the Premier League. That match saw Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial get the goals for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side while Nicolas Otamendi netted what would be a consolation for City. That result means United are in line to complete a Manchester derby double - a feat they haven't pulled off since the days of SIr Alex Ferguson during the 2009/10 season. As well as losing to their local rivals, that defeat dealt City arguably a mortal blow in their bid to retain their Premier League title and they'll be out to avoid a similar derby disappointment on Saturday. Following testing times for both teams earlier in the campaign, the two rivals are now both enjoying great form, with both sides notching up professional wins over tricky Championship opposition in their respective FA Cup matches in midweek. Talented youngster Phil Foden looks to have earned himself a start for City amid doubts over Kev...

For just $20/month for unlimited calls/texts and $10 per GB of data you use (any data past 6GB is free), Google Fi is one of the most compelling MVNOs around. Factor in its excellent roaming support, nationwide coverage, and Bill Protection feature that credits back whatever data you don't use, and you have an even more appealing purchase. Fi works on almost any unlocked phone these days, but certain features work better on some phones than others. The Pixel 4 XL is our top recommendation for the network, but if that doesn't fit your needs, there are plenty of other handsets to choose from.Best Overall: Google Pixel 4 XLWhen it comes to phones that work with Google Fi, the one we think is the best overall option is the Google Pixel 4 XL. Not only is the 4 XL an exciting phone on its own, it was also built with Fi in mind to provide the best possible experience when used on the network.Looking at the phone itself, the Pixel 4 XL brings a lot to the table. It has a large 6.3-in...

The update breaks Google Pay for AT&T users, there's a reason for that. What you need to knowGoogle has pulled the March security update for Pixel 4 users on AT&T.The update appeared to break Google Pay functionality for users who successfully downloaded and installed it.Google is likely to re-release the update late this week once it fixes the underlying issue. Yesterday, Google released the March security update alongside the first 2020 Pixel feature drop. It has now pulled the update for AT&T Pixel 4 users. While it wasn't initially clear why, users on Reddit (via 9to5Google) later reported that the update was breaking support for Google Pay. That's not a good look for Google. The issue appears to be that Google didn't properly certify the build it was delivering to AT&T users. Without that certification, this means that apps and services which rely on Googe's SafetyNet wouldn't work, hence why Google Pay stopped working on affected devices. Google has si...

The agreement only valid if they sign up before June 2020Huawei has promised to pay developers a little bit more if they build apps for it's App Gallery over the next few months. While app developers in the Google Play Store and App Store often offer Apple and Google a flat 30% of their profits, Huawei is letting developers keep anything from 85% to all of their profits for 24 months. To break it down, normally Huawei's App Gallery is subject to the same 30:70 profit sharing ratio as Apple and Google, with the exception of education focused apps that have a more favorable 20:80 ratio.Under Huawei's new program, for the first 12 months, Huawei will let all app categories but gaming keep all their app revenue.
