Uniform uniforms was a baaaaaaaaaad choice
Every sport’s All-Star Game features the best players. What’s made baseball’s Midsummer Classic unique, and many would say the best showcase around, is that you get to see things you wouldn’t see in an ordinary game, while the game still remains true to itself. Last night we saw the American League win again, 5-2.Read more...

Pete Alonso is electric
The Home Run Derby should be played at the South Pole every year, because clearly it’s the natural habitat of the Polar Bear, Pete Alonso. After a year without the derby (thanks COVID), Alonso was back to defend his 2019 crown, and boy did he.

Gregg Popovich’s entire tenure with Team USA has been a failure
Over the past 17 years, every time the United States men’s basketball national team has been terrible, Gregg Popovich has been on the sidelines. And that’s not an opinion, either. It’s a fact.
No, you cannot hit a 100 mph fastball

If only this could be Stephen A. Smith’s last take
When Stephen A. Smith opens his mouth, it’s typically bullshit. Generally speaking, when it comes to an opinion of his having anything to do with sports or adjacent to sports, I completely ignore him and accept him for what he is — someone who delivers hot takes and yells loudly because it gets views, and ratings…Read more...

Would you idiots please stop blighting great soccer matches with your racism?
The Euro Championship did not go England’s way. After two hours of football ended locked in a 1-1 draw, England and Italy squared off in penalty kicks. Italy won after Marcus Rashford hit one off the post, Jadon Sancho’s attempt was stopped, and the final try, taken by 19-year-old Bukayo Saka, was saved by the…Read more...
Why did it take the Secretary of Defense, a Republican senator, and President Biden to get Navy CB Cameron Kinley to the NFL?
An American story that was on its way to becoming an American dream got derailed last month by American’s greatest sin — racism. But, a month later, that American dream is back on track after some American politicians came together in the name of bipartisanship to let a Black Naval officer and Annapolis grad live his…Read more...
Under-the-radar sports you should check out during the Tokyo Games
There are certain sports that are staples of the Olympics, the ones that get on in prime time and take hold of the sports world when they’re going for the gold. Rachel Nichols’ comments about Maria Taylor are latest example of how ESPN screws over its Black employees
What you’re about to read will give you context and details about the story of the day, and one of the biggest stories of the past year in sports media. It will also shed light on a lot of the variables that have made this thing go viral. Because while you think you know what’s going on, I guarantee you that you don’t.
No, the Lightning didn’t cheat
At some point in the next couple days, the Tampa Bay Lightning will win their second consecutive Cup. Could be tonight, or maybe the Canadiens have one last death rattle in them and send this series back to Tampa on Wednesday. Cat Osterman tells Deadspin about her return to Olympic softball ahead of the Games
Cat Osterman will wear a different number when she steps onto the Tokyo dirt this summer — 38. It was her tryout number for USA softball after taking a few years away from playing the game. What should the MLB All-Star Game be?
The 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game has been through a lot. There’s been a change of venue and an atrocious jersey reveal. I mean, seriously, who thought those were a good idea? At least the game doesn’t determine home-field advantage for the World Series anymore — amirite?
America’s gluttonous celebration is back, and you won’t be able to look away
There’s this quote I think about around this time every year. It’s from Jason Fagone, author of the book Horseman of the Esophagus. In it, he chronicles the stories of professional eaters. I read it for a college class once. That’s a story for another time.
Is pairing Stefon Diggs up with another elite receiver really a good move?
Stefon Diggs doesn’t need a great No. 2 in order for Buffalo’s offense to shine. Even with John Brown sidelined for almost half of the 2020 season, Diggs was still able to break out in his first year with Buffalo — leading the league with 127 receptions and 1530 yards and setting new career highs in catch rate (76.5%)…Read more...

Coupe de “ill”
The Stanley Cup Final is a huge letdown after the rip-roaring semifinals, which isn’t really a surprise, because when the Lightning beat the Islanders to set up their title defense against the Canadiens, it was something of a fait accompli.

The Baltimore Orioles are a beautiful mess that makes absolutely zero sense
The Orioles are not a good team. They haven’t been a consistently great team since the late ’90s. Sure they had that one season in 2014 where they got swept in the ALCS after winning their first division title in 17 years, but were only good for that one season. The Orioles have finished either 4th or 5th in the AL…Read more...

Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka have formed the best, dumbest rivalry in golf since Happy Gilmore and Shooter McGavin, and honestly I’m fully here for all of it.
