Is this a legal .22 mounting position?
I’ve seen people using headrest slings in crew cab trucks, but since my truck is a single cab, it somewhat conceals the gun. Is it legal for a 19 year old in Nevada to drive with this? submitted by /u/Tordelini
Tips on selling a rifle at a gun show as an individual?
Howdy, there’s a gun show coming up in DFW that I’m looking to go to in order to offload a lever-action rifle. Currently in the middle of a move, realized I don’t shoot it nearly a often as I thought I would and could use some cash. Selling at a gun show isn’t my first choice, but its my only option at this point as none of my buddies are in the market for one, and all the fudd-lord LGS owners nearby always egregiously lowball me (yet price their USGI 1911s at the same price as Staccatos). I’ve bought a gun or two from gun shows, but I’ve never tried selling one, especially not as an individual. Does anyone have experience with this? I was thinking of just sticking a wooden dowel down the barrel with a laminated flyer stapled to the end that has a “for sale” description. Then just walk around checking things out, hoping that someone bites. That’s the best idea I’ve got so far, and would love to hear any of y’alls ideas of what has worked or hasn’t. I know I’m not really going to get an amazing price for it, but are there any tips/ tactics to maximize visibility/ return? submitted by /u/drpepperfan182
Looking for Safe recommendations (in-wall mounted?)
I'm in the market to pick up a gun safe. I anticipate no more than 2 rifles, 3 pistols, and some ammo. I'm not really a collector, just looking to keep my pistol away from kids and maybe buy a rifle (AR-15) and/or another pistol later this year. I don't care about thieves or fires as the guns are material and can be replaced. There's some dead space behind the wall in my closet. I think it may be a few feet deep. I'm thinking it makes sense to get an in-wall stud mounted solution. Preferably a deep one if it exists. E.g., I'd like to cut out the dry wall in the back of my closet, slide a safe in, and bolt it to two studs on either side. Do you have any recommendations? submitted by /u/joe0418

Recommendation for optics-ready full size 9mm
Hey guys, looking for some recommendations and personal experiences with optics-ready full size 9mm’s. Recently took a practical pistol course and it was loads of fun and informative, but I was one of the few guys shooting with irons, most had dots. The instructors were also highly recommending using dots if I was going to take any of the more advanced courses as well. The class had a lot of drawing from the holster and target transitioning, and one of the guys let me try their P320 with a dot and the difference of quick target acquisition was immediate, so I’m looking to get into it. I’m currently using a full size FNS9 and I really enjoy it, but it’s not cut for optics. Do you guys have any recommendations for an optics ready full size that’s rugged? I don’t need a target pistol, just a solid gun. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/HeThicc
What is the minimum tolerance for CNC AR-15 lowers?
I'm new to machining and am only self taught from the internet so I really don't know how it applies to firearm lowers. I look at the schematics and some of the dimensions look like they call for .002-.006 of tolerance. My question is, what would be the minimum, could you machine a lower with a machine only capable of .01'' and still have it function mil-spec quality? submitted by /u/GoldenTV3

Gun Talk Tuesday - 18 April 2023
Tuesday catch-all post for all the questions, comments, rants, et cetera that don’t belong in their own thread or the designated Politics thread Keep the /r/guns rules in mind. What is your favorite "quality-of-life" improvement or feature on a gun? Not necessarily the best ever, but your personal favorite? AND/OR You can only have one cartridge and can only change your decision once every 5 years, but you get a free box of 1000x delivered every month. What cartridge do you choose and why? Possible to transport gun accessories/parts out of the US?
Recently purchased the P365X MS in my country. Was looking forward to modding it, unfortunately parts are scarce and worth 2-4x more than US MSRP over here. Chances are probably slim but I was wondering if there was anyway to LEGALLY transport a frame module or other parts? Got a trip to the US coming up later in the year submitted by /u/BuffetLord
Found a Laugo Alien at a local store - should I buy it?
When the Alien first started getting lots of attention on YT reviews I immediately wanted it, in part because it seems to take the trait I like most about CZ 75 variants, a low bore axis and the resulting effortless accuracy that almost feels like cheating (not that that's the only thing that makes CZ's shoot well, but it damn sure helps), to the extreme. (I more recently learned that Laugo designed the Scoprion, an excellent gun in its own right).. Everything I saw described shooting the Alien as an experience uniquely set apart from any other gun and some people suggested it was the first of a whole new style of pistol design. To be sure, between the bore axis and fixed barrel and "top rib", it looks like as flat a shooter as I've ever seen- and seeing it in person, good lord that is low indeed, the muzzle being essentially where the recoil spring is on most modern pistols. I feel like I read over and over how the Alien represented a leap forward in handgun design. I figured if it was that great, it would become easier to get with time and so I forgot about it for a bit. Fast forward to 2022 and I remember wondering what happened to it, and why I'd still never laid eyes on one. Asking at a couple stores, the answer was that it never really seemed to go into mass production and was a rare and pricey find. I did look it up on gunbroker and saw they weren't impossible to get by any means, but for the price range, I didn't feel so rushed to buy, given my Stacatto XC cost less and is perhaps the most satisfying shooter I have, while as much cash can buy 3-5 truly amazing pistols or go a long way to getting a "grail" level long gun - like perhaps an HK G36 or something similar. I have quite a few 'safe queens' already though, and an enjoyable pistol in a relatively cheap caliber like 9mm can make for lots of fun.. Which sums up my current thoughts after encountering my first Alien live in the "flesh". It is damn good looking, to be sure. Not cheap. Used (like new tbf), with a red dot I didn't recognize, and a whopping price tag of $6200. Looking on gubroker that seems about average - some are cheaper, most seem to fall right around 6-6.4.. so ultimately the question is, is it worth it? The fact it never took off gives me pause - though sometimes quirky unique guns make great additions to a collection - but i also love instant gratification so the idea of walking in tomorrow or the next day and out with such a piece is tempting.. Anyway, to the point: anyone have experience w it? Should I? Should I not? Is the price fairly reasonable? (And, what should it come with, besides a spare mag or three?) I welcome all opinions, preferably with some hands on experience to back them up but if you want to chime in regardless please do! Thanks submitted by /u/begals

Gun cleaning kit or individual parts for long guns?
Up until recently I've only had a couple pistols which I've used the cheap hoppe's pistol kit to clean. But soon I'll be getting an ar15, shotgun, and rimfire rifle. Are there good kits similar for long guns or should I just buy the individual boresnakes I need? Also should I get boresnakes or cleaning rods? And when I run out of the hoppe's kit solvent/lube, is CLP all I need? submitted by /u/TroutOmelette

Refinishing the stock on a Rossi R92
I’ve already got two other Rossi’s, and one thing I’ve always wanted to do with them (aside from mount a scope on the one) is refinish the stock to a more traditional “walnut” hue like my Henry. Rossi’s aren’t even orange like the photo shows, the ones I have anyway are literally red. I just picked up my third Rossi, a 44 Magnum with the 24 inch polished stainless octagonal barrel, and I decided this is the one I’ll refinish. I did some woodworking growing up but never refinished a gun stock so I’m not familiar with the process. The wood on these is rubberwood, which I’ve heard is actually pretty pale and is easy to sand. There is some grain on the particular rifle I’ll be working with. I’d appreciate any advice, thanks - submitted by /u/throwaway71817191
What should it cost to refinish a Remington Nylon 22?
I grew up learning to shoot on a Remington Nylon. When my father gave it to me he said that I am not allowed to clean it until it misfires because “that damn thing has never been cleaned and still shoots like it’s brand new”. I had actually cleaned it a few times after I learned that was a good thing to do but I never told dad for fear of him feeling betrayed. Years ago a 5 year old pain in the ass next door neighbor spray painted part of the barrel but not the nylon. I would like to have the gun refurbished and refinished. I realize I’ll probably be paying more than the gun is “worth” but I’ll never sell it so I’m just trying to figure out what I should expect to pay to get it back it’s original glory, the way it was the day my dad my bought it new and paid $67 for it with the scope already mounted. submitted by /u/Vegas_off_the_Strip
All-purpose hunting rifle caliber?
I'm looking to get into some deer hunting this fall--also maybe some bear and elk at some point. I'm hoping to get one rifle with a sufficient caliber to be able to handle all such animals. Does anyone have a suggestion on caliber (and maybe a make/model of a good, mid-value rifle)? I'm fairly ignorant on the caliber differences so appreciate any advice. .38 or .357?
I’m new to gun ownership. Primary purpose is home defense. I’ve already decided on a shotgun as my primary weapon, but want a secondary weapon as well. I’ve decided on a revolver. My question is whether I should buy a .38 or a .357. Here are my decision criteria:

FTF after installing Apex Trigger in Hellcat
I had 5 of these failures in one 13 round mag of 147gr Federal HST’s. I ran that ammo through the gun before I switched the triggers and it ran fine. I just wanted to confirm reliability after I put the gun back together, and it’s a good thing that I did. It doesn’t look like a normal FTF to me, it looks like the tip of the bullet is caught on the magazine blocking lever. Does that mean I reinstalled it incorrectly? Or does the gun just not like HST’s anymore? I didn’t have any other failures with the 11 round mag of HST’s or with either mag and ball ammo. Help with Winchester M70

One, or two guns for home defense?
I currently use my sub-compact CCW for home defense, just kind of does double duty. I want something larger with more capacity for HD. I was thinking of picking up a full size 9mm for home defense along with a 12 gauge. Why? My thought is, weird bump in the night scenario, I’d take the 9mm and check it out. I’m not clearing the house, just heard an odd noise and am checking it out. But if I’m SURE someone’s in the house, I’m hunkering down in the bedroom with the wife (and kids at some point), pointing that shotgun at the door and calling the police. I’d have the shotgun and as a backup the wife would have the 9mm at the ready. She can handle a large frame pistol a 12 gauge she won’t be able to handle. Anyway, does this make logical sense? Or should I use my CCW for the bump in the night and just keep the shotgun for the hunkering down type situation, and then just give my CCW to my wife? Or just get a large frame pistol for home defense, no shotgun, and call it a day? submitted by /u/Undercover500

Protective wax on a bayonet?
I’ve recently come across what is allegedly a Lee Enfield bayonet with what appears to be a protective casing around it - does anybody have any experience with this or maybe know a resource where I can educate myself on this a bit? Recommendation For A First Time Handgun Shopper?
As the title says I am looking into purchasing a handgun. Some context here is I am a 25 year old male living in the US. The state I live in is open carry, but I plan to get a concealed carry permit for the handgun, this is primarily just to have something quick for protection just in case. My father is a gun enthusiast and has recommended either Glock (Austrian made) or any type of wheel gun/revolver. Obviously I have no clue where to begin or what would be practical here so I’d love some recommendations on Glocks and revolvers to look at. If there are other recommendations for handguns please feel free to let me know. Thank you in advance! submitted by /u/throwawaytjcl
