So I used hearing protection (ear plugs) when shooting an m4 but I assume it was not in correctly. I shot around 500 rounds total, about 60 rounds in after adjusting my ear plugs I noticed ringing from shooting but had to continue for about another 100 rounds. After realizing the fuckup, and the fact I could barely hear out my left ear, I put in different earplugs (the hearing damage only occurred in my left ear). I then proceeded to shoot the rest of the 300 or so rounds with, I believe, better ear protection. It’s been about 4.5 days since then and my hearing seems to have returned to the same level in my left ear but there is a constant ringing in that ear and I’m over sensitive to sounds in it now if they’re above a certain decibel. I’ve heard a lot of different things online so I’m curious if anyone has had a similar situation or insight into whether it’s likely the over sensitivity/tinnitus in that ear will go away. I’m also young (early 20s) if that helps. TLDR; I shot a Fuck ton of rounds out an m4 and had inadequate hearing protection for many. I’m going to talk about how ballistic is used in criminology and I wonder if anyone knows a website where I can find the result of an experience with ballistic gel. I need to pick a weapon and find the velocity of the bullet when it enters the gel according to how deep the bullet went. I’ve recently found out I may have astigmatism after buying a red dot for rifle. I see a star pattern instead of dot, but only in low light conditions and when not using magnifier. Otherwise it’s almost crystal clear. I have a 20/20 vision and have never heard of such weird astigmatism before, so I was wondering if anyone else has similar experience. I'm getting significant fouling near the ejection port of my Tikka T3x. I've fired 30 odd rounds through the rifle in two instances. First instance was only 6 rounds and i might have missed the issues that time round. Any idea what this could be, how I can clean it and what I can do to stop it? I've tried soaking in Hoppe's No. 9 over night and rubbing vigorously which hasn't really done anything. 1st photo is a bottom up view into the receiver, under the right light the darker parts look to be brass, I'm assuming the whitish stuff might have been there already and is rubbing against the round as it is fed. 2nd photo is of a casing that has a mark near the neck that is consistent across the 6 cases that I still have from the second day of shooting. 3rd photo is the same angle after soaking in Hoppe's No.9 over night and giving it a good rub. No real difference. There is nothing obvious on the bolt and the action still feels OK. Receiver has a Cerakote finish. Ive called fedex and ive called the seller of the firearm. Fedex is about as helpful as youd think. It's apparently being held at one of their terminals. On hold to be delivered. No date. No expected date of attempt. As far as they told me, it sounds like it's just sitting there with no info on when theyll try again. And they would not help me past saying the shipper has to request it to be returned. The shipper agreed fedex sucks and theyll try and contact them to get it sent back. I'll call tomorrow to get an update. So my question is, is this normal? It seems like theyre just holding my gun for no reason. I know, I know: just put a stock on it. HOWEVER. I live in NY. So I’m fucked anyway you slice it. I can’t register anything under the amnesty period even if I wanted to. AND my 10” pistol is registered on my permit (in this shithole state every pistol I own is listed on my license. I have three ID cards in my wallet listing every pistol I own) so my pistol is already certainly on a list that could easily be accessed and traced back to me. AND in my profession, any weapons charge would likely mean the end of my career, not just my current job. So I need to play by the rules. Has anyone really figured out if a bare buffer tube without a brace is good to go? I see the pros and cons of both. For online you have a wider variety and usually better prices. But you also risk scammers, and getting damaged goods, plus no one likes waiting for a new weapon. Meanwhile with the LGS you can get the gun then and there, inspect it, and the experience of a LGS can't be beat in my opinion (except maybe a gunshow). However they're usually far more expensive, and don't offer the same variety as online retailers. What do y'all prefer, and why? submitted by /u/Ronin115
