Imgur is going to be less strict about memes with adult humor
Image: Imgur Memes on the image-hosting service Imgur containing references to adult humor" will no longer be considered mature, the company announced in a post addressing changes to its content moderation policies.Imgur has been an important part of meme history, with its creator making the service in 2009 as a gift to Reddit." At that time, most platforms didn't host their own images, so you had to upload them instead on third-party platforms. I remember seeing Imgur a lot on the Something Awful forums back in the day, too, though following other policy changes last year that led to the removal of inactive content and pornography, users scrambled to save old images. The changes announced this week could mean that you see spicier memes on the... Illustration: The Verge Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri is acknowledging recent mistakes in Meta's moderation processes on Threads and Instagram. For example, Meta unexpectedly deleted my account this week because it thought I was underage, the company locked my colleague's account because she joked about dying in a heatwave, and others have seen their posts disappear with no clear reason why. Threads Moderation Failures" has been trending this week - putting more pressure on Meta's moderation processes. Now Mosseri admits that Meta is having problems with those processes and has publicly posted that acknowledgment on Threads. If I was reviewing this app, I would not have been very nice," he said. One of the primary criticisms of the app was that the premium Panels Plus" subscription cost $11.99 per month or $49.99 per year to remove ads and have full access to the available collections of wallpapers. How to lock any app with Face ID on an iPhone using iOS 18
Illustration by Samar Haddad / The Verge Having to hand your iPhone over to someone can be a fairly common occurrence. Maybe your little nephew wants to play a game or your friend wants to check out the photos from your last vacation. Whatever the reason, no matter how much you trust that person, there are probably parts of your phone that you'd rather they didn't see (even accidentally). That's where the new Face ID lock in iOS 18 comes in: you can now get your iPhone to ask for biometric authentication whenever a particular app is launched. (While we refer to Face ID throughout this article, if you're on an older phone with Touch ID, you can use that instead.) This means your friend or family member can't dive straight into your private chat conversations or your current... Continue reading...

The Google breakup is looming

How SpaceX became the MyPillow of government contractors
Contractors gone wild. | Photo by Jim Watson / AFP via Getty Images It really has been something to watch Elon Musk turn SpaceX into the MyPillow of rocket companies, hasn't it?Christ, I guess I have to list off all the depressing stuff from the past few months: the Trump rally, the creepy assassination comments, the even creepier comments about impregnating Taylor Swift, spreading hurricane misinformation on X (and thus hindering relief efforts), claiming his own child was killed" by the woke mind virus," that kind of thing. I have seen a lot of people suggest this is political radicalization, and sure, maybe it is. But I can't help noticing a sick business logic, too.Musk has figured out he can leverage the culture wars to his advantageI have never accused Musk of being anything other than... Google appeals judge’s decision forcing app store competition on Android
Illustration by Cath Virginia / The Verge Today, Google filed its official notice of appeal against the district court ruling and jury verdict in Epic v. Google. Judge James Donato's ruling earlier this week would force the company to distribute third-party app stores on Google Play and drop requirements that Google Play apps use its billing system, among other competition-friendly changes.Google had said it would be appealing the verdict. As we have already stated, these changes would put consumers' privacy and security at risk, make it harder for developers to promote their apps, and reduce competition on devices," Google VP of regulatory affairs Lee-Anne Mulholland said in a blog post on Monday. Could you change that icon? The answer is yes - it's doable using Apple's built-in Shortcuts app. You actually won't be replacing the app's official icon. Rather, you'll be creating a separate shortcut that leads to the app. It's a tedious and time-consuming process, but in the end, you can have a fully customized iPhone homescreen. Here's how you do it:
