Devils' Farnham suspended 4 games for hit on Blues' Jaskin
New Jersey Devils forward Bobby Farnham has been suspended four games by the NHL's Department of Player Safety for his dangerous hit on St. Louis Blues forward Dmitirij Jaskin.
Farnham crushed Jaskin - who had his head turned and was nowhere near the puck - in the third period on Tuesday.
He was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for interference, and the incident led to a melee between the two teams.
The league stated that Jaskin was "not eligible to be checked in any manner," adding, "This is a calculated decision by a player seeking retribution against the opposing team, and choosing to do so in an illegal and violent manner."
It is the first time Farnham has been suspended in his 38-game NHL career.
The 26-year-old has seven goals and one assists in 27 games this season.
