Team Canada's brain trust for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey is one step closer to naming its initial 16-man roster.

Doug Armstrong, Ken Holland, Marc Bergevin, Bob Murray, and Rob Blake were all part of an extensive four-and-a-half-hour meeting Tuesday in Vancouver to narrow Canada's list down to 18-20 players, reports ESPN's Pierre LeBrun.

Teams must submit a preliminary roster consisting of 16 players by March 2. Difficult decisions remain for Canada.

The internal debate is whether to name 2 or 3 goalies March 2 and then leave as much flexibility as possible for final 7 spots named June 1

It's expected that both Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price and Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby will be named to the initial roster, but a third goalie could be part of the first group as well.

The final 23-man roster will consist of 13 forwards, seven defensemen, and three goaltenders.
