Plekanec leads Canadiens to 3rd straight victory

The Montreal Canadiens are suddenly back on track.

Following a disappointing 4-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres last Wednesday, Montreal appeared to be shifting its attention from the playoff race to a potential lottery pick. What a difference a week makes.

The Canadiens defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 Tuesday for their third consecutive victory.

Tomas Plekanec continued his strong play, recording two goals and an assist in the win.

The 33-year-old has seven points during the three-game streak, giving him 42 points on the year.

Brendan Gallagher added a goal and an assist, while P.K. Subban tallied yet another point on Devante Smith-Pelly's marker.

Subban now has at least a point in 16 of his past 18 games played: 4 goals and 15 assists in that span. Current point streak at seven games

Ben Scrivens made 37 saves for his third straight victory, as the Canadiens improved to 27-24-4 on the season. Montreal is now just three points back of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final wild-card spot.

Valtteri Filppula and Victor Hedman scored for the Lightning, who fell to 29-20-4 with the loss. They've dropped both games to the Canadiens this season.

The two teams will face off again on March 31 in Tampa Bay.
