Linux mint 17.3 help questions about being able to use for gaming

hello everyone my name is Ryan im new to Linux in general i switched to Linux Mint 17.3 because my computer would not work with windows no matter what i did. i would love to use my PC for gaming using steam the problem is i need net framework 4.0 or better on my Linux but every time i try to install it it has errors. i tried to install using play on Linux but no such luck. so my question to all of you is is there a different version of Linux i should try using for gaming or is there a simple and easy way to get net framework 4.0 on my system?
