Sometimes 20 minutes is all you need.

Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin scored his first hat trick since 2013 on Thursday with three second-period tallies to sink the Minnesota Wild 4-3.

Three goals for @ovi8 in the second period. First time since 3/3/08 vs. BOS that Ovechkin scored his hat trick in the same period. #CapsWild

The goals help move Ovechkin past Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane for tops in the league. The 30-year-old now has 34 on the season, one more than Kane.

Ovechkin's hat trick was the 14th of his career, the most of any player since 2005.

Meanwhile, things didn't get any better for the Wild who dropped their seventh straight game and 12th in their last 13 contests.
