Stamkos nets shootout winner vs. Jets in high-scoring affair

There's too much scoring in the NHL.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Winnipeg Jets needed five rounds of the shootout to decide their wild game Thursday.

Steven Stamkos netted the shootout winner, lifting the Lightning to a 6-5 victory over the Jets. The contest saw 10 goals scored in regulation including six in the final period, four of which came from the Jets.

Winnipeg fell behind 4-1 early in the third period after a goal by Alex Killorn, but pulled itself out of the hole, scoring four straight before Nikita Kucherov netted the game-tying goal with just under five minutes remaining in regulation.

All systems and structure have gone out the window in this game for these teams.

Jets captain and the subject of trade rumors, Andrew Ladd had a stellar game: He netted two goals in the third period, including a short-handed marker, and added a goal in the shootout.

The matchup also saw Bryan Little leave after taking a crushing open-ice hit from Anton Stralman. The incident sparked outrage from Jets head coach Paul Maurice, who was served a game misconduct for his rant to the officials.

The win helped the Lightning vault the New Jersey Devils for the last wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Jets have now dropped two straight and five of their last eight.
