Linux Mint 17.3 no support for bluetooth headphones as a Sound Device

While Bluetooth headphones pair to Linux Mint fine, they do not show up in the sound devices menu. It is said that this is supported way back at Ubuntu Base 10.10. The Latest Linux Mint 17.3 LTS is based on Ubuntu 14.04, but still does not support it as a sound device. It shows in Bluetooth menu as on, and paired, but it does not show up in the Sound devices menu. Therefore you cannot use it.
I just fired up old Ubuntu 10.10 CD and Bluetooth headphones work fine, and DO show up as a sound device in the Sound menu?
Whats up with this? Anybody ever find a way to get Bluetooth headphones to show in the sound menu and work?
It also will NOT connect even though it is Paired. If you click connect in the volume control menu, it disconnects after about 3 seconds.
