Welcome to the first weekly roundup of the best of the Guardian's science coverage. And what a week it's been. Without question, the biggest story of the week has been the news that scientists in California trying to grow human organs inside pigs have successfully created part-human, part-pig embryos. Chimeras aside, we've also had the shocking news that air pollution is now a major contributor to stroke worldwide, and excitement as researchers discover the fossil remains of what appear to be the ancestors of the Flores 'hobbits'. Noel Edmonds also distracted the internet with claims that an electronic box could "tackle cancer". Science says no.
