The Winnipeg Jets dipped a toe into the free-agent waters Friday.
The club announced the signing of defenseman Brian Strait to a one-year contract worth $600,000. It's a one-way deal.
Strait had a goal and five assists in 61 games for the New York Islanders last season. He averaged 15:26 in ice time.
The 28-year-old has played in 182 regular-season games, scoring six goals and adding 21 assists.
