Burning Iron Dropped Into Liquid Nitrogen With Explosive Results

In an episode of Periodic Videos, professor Martin Poliakoff discusses an experiment at the School of Chemistry at The University of Nottingham where chemists dropped burning iron wool into liquid oxygen with some explosive results. Although the reaction was brilliant, Poliakoff and his colleagues were unable to discern exactly what was causing it.
