A system allowing swarms of robots to avoid colliding with one another has been developed by a team at Georgia Tech's GRITS Laboratory. The system works by adding minimally invasive safety controllers to the robots, and it can prevent collisions in a large groups of robots working together. The system can also detect other obstacles like a non-integrated robot, human, or animal and avoid those as well.

A video by the team shows how the robots coordinate to avoid colliding when trying to move to the same position. The system works for ground-based robots as well as flying drones, as demonstrated in a video posted by Georgia Tech graduate research assistant Li Wang
