For her 100 Day Project, designer Katrina McHugh of Flight Design has created Lyrical Natural Sciences, a gorgeously line of prints that visually illustrate songs using minimalist images of nature on earth and in space. McHugh has compiled these images into a full-color book that can be pre-ordered for a December 9, 2016 release.
I am interested in how artists across all genres rely on references to nature to help explain complex human feelings or experiences. To explore this connection, I participated in the #100dayproject and spent well over a year creating 100 visual diagrams based on popular song lyrics that reference the natural world. The end result is this humble collection of odd and often illogical diagrams. I am pleased to present it here in book form as a personal reminder that there are secrets hidden in nature and that logic continues to evade the human heart.
