Gustav Nyquist might want to keep his phone charged.

The Detroit Red Wings forward caught Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon with a blatant and dangerous high stick in the first period of Sunday afternoon's game.

The incident was sparked by a cross-check delivered by Spurgeon moments prior.

After the game, Nyquist said the play was accidental.

Nyquist on Spurgeon: "I had no intention of doing that. My stick gets caught. It looks bad, but I'm happy he's OK."#mnwild #redwings

Spurgeon, meanwhile, received four stitches, and expects the league to look into the incident.

Nyquist was assessed a double-minor penalty for the infraction, but could very well be hearing from the NHL's Department of Player Safety in regards to further discipline.
