Texans' Strong officially suspended 1-game for substance abuse violation
The NFL has officially handed down a one-game suspension to Houston Texans wide receiver Jaelen Strong for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, the league announced Thursday.
Strong will be eligible to return to the Texans' active roster following their Sept. 10 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The wideout later posted a statement to Twitter, expressing his disappointment in learning of his suspension, and assuring that sort of behavior is behind him.
"I've done everything since that night. I have learned and matured. I have dedicated myself to being the best person I can be for this team, this city, and our community and I want to be someone kids can look up to," the statement reads. "I made a mistake that night, but I won't let this define me."
A report earlier in the week from John McClain of the Houston Chronicle suggested that Strong was appealing a one-game suspension for marijuana possession related to an incident in February of 2016. An official suspension from the league suggests that appeal has been denied.
In his second year with the Texans, Strong appeared in eight games and finished with 14 catches and 131 receiving yards.
