The Buffalo Bills released running back Jonathan Williams, who was expected to serve as the primary backup to LeSean McCoy, on Sunday, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The 23-year-old spent just one season with the Bills, rushing for 94 yards and one touchdown in 10 games while working behind McCoy and Mike Gillislee on the depth chart. He was selected in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Arkansas.

The Bills have a host of veteran running backs still on the roster. It remains to be seen if one of them will emerge as the top backup for McCoy, or if the team will look externally to fill the void.
