Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell signed his $12.1-million franchise tag Monday, the team announced.

The superstar rusher missed all of training camp after failing to come to terms with the team on a long-term deal. He reported to the Steelers on Friday and underwent a physical.

On tag deadline day, Bell reportedly turned down a five-year contract worth $12 million per season - the highest average for any running back.

The former second-round pick has consistently said he wants to help reinvigorate the running back market with his next contract.

The Steelers will get a two-week roster exemption for Bell, which begins Monday.
