Bills' McDermott: McCoy could play every snap this season
Despite being mentioned in trade rumors this offseason, it appears Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy remains very much in the team's plans this year.
"Whatever it takes to win the game, that's what we're going to do," Bills coach Sean McDermott told ESPN's Mike Rodak on Wednesday when asked about McCoy's workload expectancy this season. "If it means he's got to play every snap, that's what we'll do, if he's feeling good."
After the Bills traded receiver Sammy Watkins and cornerback Ronald Darby earlier in the offseason, it appeared the team could be undergoing a full-blown rebuild, but keeping McCoy in the fold dispelled that notion.
McCoy was one of the league's elite backs last season, totaling 1,267 yards on the ground to go with 13 touchdowns, and also catching 50 passes for 356 yards and one touchdown through the air.
The team will need him to continue that level of production if it hopes to have success moving forward without key contributors from the past few seasons. It appears management and the coaching staff recognize this, and are planning to put McCoy to full use.
"We'll just see, we'll see what he can handle," McDermott said. "Like any player we're going to put him in a position to be successful."
The Bills cut backup running back Jonathan Williams in a surprise move last week, so it doesn't seem unrealistic for McCoy to rarely leave the field this season.
