Savage: 'Nobody wants to be benched. I'll be ready to go'
Both Tom Savage and Deshaun Watson have yet to be informed who will be the starting quarterback for the Houston Texans' Thursday game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Despite a rough outing in Week 1 in which Savage threw for just 62 yards, lost two fumbles, and was replaced at halftime by Watson, he's holding out hope that he'll get the call.
"Nobody wants to be benched," Savage said Tuesday, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. "I'll be ready to go."
Savage won the starting gig in training camp, but completed just seven of his 13 passes in the opener. He knows such play doesn't warrant a heads up from his coach on who will start in Week 2.
"No, I'm not waiting to have that conversation," Savage said, via Mark Berman of FOX26. "I don't think he owes either of us any explanation. You just got to be ready. It's called being a professional."
Both the Texans and Bengals will be searching for their first win on Thursday.
