Steelers' Villanueva: 'Unacceptable to use me as a tool to push an agenda'
Pittsburgh Steelers left tackle Alejandro Villanueva does not appreciate having his background as a former Army Ranger used to score political points by anyone.
"I'm tired of the cameras in my face all the time," Villanueva told NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala after Sunday's win over the Baltimore Ravens. "It's completely unacceptable to use me as a tool to push an agenda."
Many who disliked players protesting during the national anthem pointed to Villanueva as being in their corner after he stood by himself outside the locker room for the song in Week 3. Villanueva later clarified that he did not stand by himself intentionally as he thought his teammates were right behind him, but many have ignored that bit of information to have it fall in line with their agenda.
