Trubisky: 'I feel like I'm ready'
The Chicago Bears handed rookie Mitchell Trubisky the starting quarterback job on Monday, exactly one week before he will make his pro debut against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.
After sitting for the first four weeks of the season, Trubisky believes he's prepared for the job.
In his first day of media availability since being named the team's new starter, the rookie said, "I feel like I'm ready," according to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun Times.
The Bears struggled to a 1-3 start with veteran Mike Glennon under center. After a poor performance on Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers, the club opted to turn to the rookie with just 13 career college starts under his belt.
"We're in this new era where young quarterbacks are expected to come in right away and produce like veterans have," Trubisky said.
Fellow first-round pick Deshaun Watson is playing well for the Houston Texans, and DeShone Kizer was named the opening-day starter for the Cleveland Browns.
Trubisky was the highest-picked quarterback in this year's draft and received rave reviews for his four-game performance in the preseason. Now, he'll get a chance to display his talent in regular-season action.
"He has the skill set," said Glennon, who has been relegated to Trubisky's backup. "He just has to go out there and play ... He's good enough. He just has to have confidence in himself because he's good enough."
