Packers' Montgomery hopeful to play vs. Cowboys despite broken ribs
Despite his broken ribs, Green Bay Packers running back Ty Montgomery is still hopeful he will be able to play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys with the help of the team's medical staff.
"I'm going into this week as if I'm going to play," Montgomery said Tuesday. "I'm not willing to risk my overall long-term health, but at the end of the day it's going to be up to me."
Montgomery suffered the injury during the Packers' opening drive in last week's win over the Chicago Bears after he wound up on the bottom of multiple defenders.
"The defensive tackle landed full body weight on (another defender), so it was like a hammer-and-nail type situation," the former Stanford star said. "His knee was hammered into my rib cage."
Should Montgomery be out against Dallas, the Packers will probably lean on Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones to carry the load on the ground. Regardless of who gets the carries, Aaron Rodgers and the passing attack will likely get most of the work - Green Bay ranks 28th in the league in rushing yards per game.
