The chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, a foundation which works with the NFL to promote a more diverse workforce, is calling on Colin Kaepernick to break his silence.

John Wooten provided a statement to ESPN's Josina Anderson on Wednesday, asking Kaepernick to speak on the intent and purposes of his protest during the national anthem, an act that has spawned a movement and drawn U.S. President Donald Trump into the conversation.

I, John Wooten, Chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, ask Colin Kaepernick to stand up and speak to the American public as to why he originally took a seat during the playing of the National Anthem, then after speaking with Nate Boyer (Green Beret) took a knee. Tell the American Public what you told Eric Reid was your reason and intentions.

It is time to put an end to how your intentions are being used to further divide the people of our country. Colin, you are the only one who can speak from your heart. Players all over the NFL need you to speak out. Stand up Colin. We are listening and waiting impatiently.

- John Wooten

Kaepernick has yet to speak publicly since opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers at the end of the 2016 season.
