Doctors have informed the Green Bay Packers that they believe star quarterback Aaron Rodgers can resume throwing in six weeks, meaning he has a shot at returning near the end of the regular season, league sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Rodgers underwent surgery on his broken right collarbone Thursday and was placed on injured reserve. He will be eligible to return to game action in eight weeks.

Brett Hundley is set to start in Rodgers' stead, tasked with keeping the 4-2 Packers in the playoff hunt. The Packers won't push Rodgers to return if they fall out of contention, added Schefter.
