Terrelle Pryor takes demotion in stride: 'Not going to see any animosity'

Terrelle Pryor was supposed to be the Redskins' go-to receiver after signing in free agency, but he's largely disappointed in his first season in Washington.

And Pryor's campaign got worse ahead of Monday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, being benched in favor of Josh Doctson and playing only one snap in the first half.

"I don't know," Pryor said when asked why he didn't start, according to John Keim of ESPN. "Josh is great. He's a talented player. We have talented receivers. I know coach Jay (Gruden) wanted to get Josh involved more. ... We believe in coach, believe in how he coaches us, and whatever he says goes. I don't have any questions. You're not going to see any animosity or see me angry or whatever."

Pryor finished the game with a season-low 30 snaps, catching two passes for 14 yards.

Meanwhile, Doctson - a former first-round pick - struggled to make an impact in his expanded role, finishing with 39 yards on three grabs. It remains to be seen if Doctson's move into the starting lineup is a permanent one.

"We wanted to get Josh in there early," Gruden said of his decision to go with Doctson over Pryor at the X receiver spot.

With the entire receiving corps underperforming, Kirk Cousins has been forced to look elsewhere, mainly breakout running back Chris Thompson. However, Cousins is still optimistic about the unit turning it around.

"It's a work in progress," Cousins said. "I don't want to write a narrative until we have a full sample size of the season. There's a lot of football left. There's no reason he can't have a very strong 10 games and really finish strong this season."
