Buccaneers' Ward regrets complaining about playing time
T.J. Ward isn't used to splitting snaps with fellow safeties, and with his role reduced on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season, it's taking some time to get used to things.
The eighth-year pro lashed out after Sunday's loss, stating he didn't sign with the team to be used in rotation. After a few days to think about his words, Ward expressed regret over his comments.
"I should have kept a lot of my thoughts to myself," Ward said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine. "I've been in this league (for a long time). This is my eighth year. I'm a fiery person and I wear my emotions on my sleeve. This is all brand new to me."
Ward met with defensive coordinator Mike Smith after Sunday's comments, though neither would divulge what was said. Ward acknowledged that while he wants to play, public criticisms aren't the right way to go about it.
"It's a new situation, new team and I'm just trying to take it as it comes and handle it as it goes so I hope everyone works with me," said Ward, who signed less than a week before the regular season started. "My teammates know it's nothing malicious. My coaches know it's nothing malicious. I'm just a competitive guy."
