Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton suggested Wednesday his throwing shoulder may not be fully healed from offseason surgery.

"I still have pain in my shoulder from time to time," he said to reporters, via David Newton of ESPN.

Newton underwent a procedure in March to repair a partially torn rotator cuff. The Panthers took a cautious approach to his rehab, limiting his activity significantly in training camp and the preseason.

Cam Newton said he still has pain in his shoulder from time to time. Said he is in constant rehab. Feels good on Sundays, but said sometimes it's the Tuesdays that are painful or sometimes just sleeping on it wrong.

The former MVP has struggled for the most part in 2017, throwing 10 touchdowns to 11 interceptions through nine games. He's on pace to post one of the worst statistical seasons of his career.

Right before the start of the regular season, Newton said he was "ready to rock and roll," according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press.
