NFL sends letter to Jones accusing him of 'conduct detrimental' to league

The NFL wrote a letter to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, accusing him of "conduct detrimental to the league's best interests" regarding his blatant refusal to agree to an extension for Commissioner Roger Goodell.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of a letter addressed to Jones' attorney, David Boies, on Wednesday. Jones is threatening to sue the NFL if an extension is approved for Goodell, whose contract expires in 2018.

An extension would put Goodell in charge through the 2024 season.

Jones is involved in another feud with the NFL, vehemently disagreeing with the league's decision to suspend Cowboys star running back Ezekiel Elliott for a violation of the personal conduct policy. Elliott withdrew his appeal Wednesday and Jones has defended him against any allegations levied by the league, or otherwise.

The Cowboys owner previously denied that his objection to a Goodell extension is rooted in the Elliott conflict.
