Jones, Rivers earn Player of the Week nods off monster performances
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers had a Thanksgiving to remember, completing 81 percent of his passes for a season-high 434 yards and three touchdown passes to earn the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award. Rivers' performance propelled the Chargers to a 28-6 blowout of the Dallas Cowboys, their fifth win in their last seven games.
Cam Heyward of the Pittsburgh Steelers recorded six tackles and two sacks in Sunday's win over the Green Bay Packers and was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week. He's only the second player in franchise history to win multiple PotW awards in the same season.
Sam Koch was a difference-maker in the Baltimore Ravens' 23-16 Monday-night win over the Houston Texans. The AFC Special Teams Player of the Week punted six times for an average of 51 yards and dropped five of those inside the 20-yard line. He also completed a 22-yard pass on a fake punt that led to a Ravens touchdown.
NFCAtlanta Falcons star Julio Jones was unstoppable Sunday, hauling in 12 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The receiver's performance earned him NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Luke Kuechly now owns the most NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors in Carolina Panthers history after he received his fifth such award for his play in a 35-27 win over the New York Jets. The linebacker had 10 tackles in the game, but his forced fumble and 34-yard scoop and score gave the Panthers a fourth-quarter lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Phil Dawson was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after he kicked a 57-yard game-winning field goal in the Arizona Cardinals' 27-24 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was the longest made field goal in the 42-year-old's career.
