Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt and Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve were named Sports Illustrated's Sportsperson of the Year honorees in a reveal on Monday's episode of NBC's "The Tonight Show."

Watt and Altuve are credited with uplifting the city of Houston following the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey late this summer.

Watt raised over $37 million in aid for the relief efforts prior to the start of the Texans' season. His 2017 campaign was shortened by a leg injury suffered in Week 5, ending his year with 15 combined tackles.

Altuve helped the Astros win the first World Series in franchise history, ending baseball's second-longest championship drought.

He was named American League MVP for a season in which he hit .346/.410/.547 with 24 home runs and 32 stolen bases.
