The NFL ruled that the Cleveland Browns completed the provisions of the Rooney Rule before hiring John Dorsey as their new general manager, a league official told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Rooney Rule stipulates that teams must interview at least one minority candidate for any head coach or general manager vacancy before making their hire.

Cleveland fired executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown on Thursday, then hired Dorsey later in the evening. Brown served as the team's de facto general manager upon being hired in January 2016.

The Browns reportedly interviewed former Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley for their vacancy before hiring Dorsey, which would satisfy the rule.

Dorsey previously served as general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013-2016.
