After ending his brief retirement to play quarterback for the Miami Dolphins this year, Jay Cutler is hoping to continue his career in 2018.

"I want to play football," the 34-year-old told reporters Wednesday, per the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.

Cutler, however, added he isn't interested in being a backup, which could hinder his ability to find work. A lack of interest in him as a starter last offseason led Cutler to go into retirement for about four months before the Dolphins signed him in early August after a knee injury to Ryan Tannehill.

Miami hoped Cutler would keep its offense afloat, but his 80.9 quarterback rating this season is one of the worst of his career. He's thrown 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions with one game left to play.

Cutler, who inked a one-year deal with Miami, was set to work as a color commentator for FOX Sports when he retired.
