Bears extend GM Ryan Pace through 2021

The Chicago Bears extended general manager Ryan Pace's contract through the 2021 season.

Chicago fired head coach John Fox on Monday after three seasons with the club. Fox posted a 14-34 record during his tenure.

"I'm going to continue to do everything in my power to get the best coaches and staff in place to make this city proud," Pace said during his press conference.

Pace said his objective is to put quarterback Mitch Trubisky in the best position to succeed. The Bears selected Trubisky second overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. During his rookie season, Trubisky completed 59.4 percent of his passes for 2,193 yards, seven touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

"It's on us to continue to surround our young quarterback with the talent he needs to succeed."

The Bears also signed quarterback Mike Glennon prior to drafting Trubisky, a move Pace tacitly admitted to being shortsighted. Glennon completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 833 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions.

The success of the Bears' next head coach may ultimately dictate Pace's future with the franchise, but for the time being, he's won a strong vote of confidence from ownership.
